It’s been months since Cooper and I sat in the basement for hours filling Dixie cups with potting soil and planting seeds. We spent weeks as a family watching seeds flourish and others fail to grow or thrive in our make-shift greenhouse set up each year by my bedroom windows.
Hours were spent, as they are each year in late winter, tilling the organic soil, fertilizing and preparing for planting, followed by weeks and weeks of watching, pruning and waiting.
With a heavy dose of patience, our Southern summers arrive, along with intolerable heat, to deliver us a bountiful feast for our eyes and our appetites.
This is a simple pleasure and a wonder to watch each year and it doesn’t hurt that it’s also a big dose of Yum too.
Growing in our garden right now: Tomato (Roma, Grape, Heirloom), Zucchini, Squash, Peppers (Yellow & Red), Jalapeno, Cayenne, Basil, Pineapple Sage, Chives, Blueberry, Italian Parsley, Rosemary, Cucumber, Watermelon.
Nice cucumber trellis.
All you babe! Thanks for building it!
You are an inspiration!
