Showing Up

Woven through the seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months, years, decades and moments entwined from our first to last inhalation of life breath, our lives are held together and formed by all those who simply showed up.

Strangers, friends, family and every iteration of being between; each showed up before we ever had a conscious understanding of what it meant to have anyone show up.

Since the beginning of time, humanity has shown up. You have shown up. I have shown up and and I dare to say that showing up is one of the most powerful gifts one can bestow upon another being.

We show up by choice. We show up by court order. We show up to get paid and we show up with no expectations. We show up by obligation and we show up by a calling. We show up with heartbreak, hearts overflowing, hope, anticipation, remorse, regret, tears on our sleeves, dreams, love and we show up because we know showing up in the face of anything best exemplifies the never ending algorithm of good woven into our collective human genetic code.

We don’t know the roads we are heading down and we don’t know if we will find our way, however we do know you will show up.  Showing up is what we do. Collectively as human beings, we show up. It is one of our greatest gifts to one another.

The sun will shine, the moon will rise. The Browns may not win a game this season, but people still show up and believe they will. There will be good and there will be bad. There will be laughter and there will be tears. There will be success and there will be failure and it will unfold in a story line never intended to be anything other than ordinary and lived honestly.

We have dreams to chase the spirits in our heads and we wait for the night to chase the demons in a wild race. There is a depth  and ghostly allure to the unknown roads ahead we we wonder if we’ll get lost on. We will show up through the lifting fog and we know you will show up and stand at the trail head leading to the mountains we climb and live for each day. Mountains jagged, raw, taunting and teeming with life with summits we will chase our dreams from and do so as we stand shoulder to shoulder in the light because like us, you showed up too.

There is no invitation to live life, so let’s just show up, remind ourselves that nothing compares and how much sweeter life is when we trust in the process of simply being there.

  1. Look at all those sweet angels surrounding you. How beautiful! On another note…I NEED that shirt! Love you and take all the days you need. ❤️
